Kind of hard to see in the picture, but there is dirt/residue from gas sloshing out of the filler when I make a hard right turn. I keep cleaning it off and it keeps coming back. Whoops.

This seems to happen every other time I let someone else fill the Niva. The gas cap is pretty much just a pipe cap, which is great because it means a decent seal, except it’s actually pipe thread which means you actually need to line it up square to put it back on, or you WILL cross-thread it. And it seems like none of the pump drones are bright enough to realize that when it took five full  turns to come off it should take more than a half-turn to put back on. My paint has noticeably suffered from this.

I really like that it’s just a pipe cap, fits the Niva very well (I’m still jealous that you have a niva by the way). Sounds like another benefit to self-service gas stations!

This is just a traditional gas cap, quarter turn or so to tighten/seal it. The issue is it’s probably the original cap at 30+ years old, so the seal doesn’t really live up to its name.
